Equality continues to make leaps forward throughout the Union, except in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. From New York to California, gay marriage, civil unions, and non-discrimination laws have been passed.

Kentucky is one of the few remaining places in our Union that LGBT people have absolutely no statewide recognition or protections.

Year after year LGBT citizens in Kentucky watch as the Kentucky Senate refuses to pass legislation to protect LGBT people from discrimination.

I personally ask Governor Beshear to raise the level of tolerance and diversity in our great Commonwealth by issuing an executive order protecting LGBT people from discrimination.

Renew our faith in the pledge of allegiance to the Flag of the Commonwealth: “I pledge allegiance to the Kentucky flag, and to the Sovereign State for which it stands, one Commonwealth, blessed with diversity, natural wealth, beauty, and grace from on High."

As a citizen of this Commonwealth, I find it reprehensible that neither the executive nor legislative branches of our government have mandated protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (“LGBT”) citizens in employment, housing, accommodation, or credit. Kentucky is one of the few remaining places in our Union that LGBT people have absolutely no statewide recognition or protections. Year after year LGBT citizens in Kentucky watch as the Kentucky Senate refuses to pass legislation to protect LGBT people from discrimination. If the Kentucky Senate will not pass legislation proposed again and again in the House of Representatives, we now turn to the chief executive officer and Commander-in-Chief of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Governor Steve Beshear, to issue an executive order protecting LGBT people from discrimination when working in state government or any subdivision of the Commonwealth. Some cities and school districts in Kentucky have enacted non-discrimination regulations, yet the Commonwealth itself has done nothing. Discrimination is not a Kentucky value! No one should lose their job because of LGBT prejudice!
